Venue Requirements

Plan: 6-day juggling festival:  2nd, 3rd or 4th week of July or 1st week of August.

Main Juggling Facility

  1. Juggling space - 25,000 to 35,000 s.f. - No obstructions
  2. Type of floor surface: wood, neoprene, etc. Concrete would need to be covered.
  3. Cost per day. 5 days plus 2 half-days, set- up/strike.
  4. Hours available (24 hours preferred). Two hour shut down for cleaning ok (6 a.m. - 8 a.m.)
  5. Board Room
  6. History Lounge
  7. 4-5 Workshop spaces/1,000 to 3,000 s.f.
  8. Two rooms for preliminaries (racquetball courts are ideal).
  9. IJA Lock-up room
  10. Vendor Lock-up room
  11. 3 dedicated telephone lines
  12. Security - IJA staff acceptable?
  13. Distance from housing
  14. Concession availability
  15. Air-conditioned
  16. High ceilings/good lighting - no chandeliers
  17. Facility rules: alcohol beverages, fire, sharp objects
  18. Wheelchair accessibility
  19. Parking adequate? Permits required? Cost?

Housing

  1. Dorm rooms - number of beds available (single, double, suites) Minimum - 600 bedspaces. Cost.
  2. What linens are included with room? Cost of extra linens?
  3. Extra people in rooms? Can children sleep on floor? Discounted rates for children?
  4. Availability of rooms for early arrivals and for those who want to stay longer. Rooms available to those who just show up.
  5. Air-conditioned.
  6. Laundry facilities.
  7. Wheelchair accessibility and handicapped bathrooms.
  8. Parking permits. Cost.
  9. RV parking: Hook-ups? How many spaces?
  10. Camping availability: Tent sites - how many? Shower facilities. Cost.
  11. Alternate hotels - Special rates for IJA guests.
  12. Distance from airport.

Food Service

  1. Options to IJA as far as various meal plans and cost.
  2. What is included on meal plans? Do we have menu options?
  3. Options to non-meal plan attendees:
    1. Cost of eating through food service
    2. Can they eat with meal plan attendees
    3. Other area eateries and approximate costs
  4. Is there one dining room so jugglers can eat together?
  5. Vegetarian options (the IJA has many vegetarian members).
  6. Is meal plan mandatory?

Theatre

  1. Shows/Championships: 1,000-2,000 seats
  2. Cost of theatre:
    1. Rental fee - what does rent include?
      Cost of:
      • Box office service
      • Front-of-House Staff
      • Light/Sound
      • Security
      • Tech crew
    2. Extra fees: Does the house take a percentage of gross sales?
  3. Is theatre a union house? Can we bid out lighting and sound?
  4. Can we use our own stage hands, ticket takers, ushers and security?
  5. Number of dressing rooms: number of showers, mirrored rooms, rooms with juggling space, etc.
  6. Space for judges table if possible. Front row seating with clipboards otherwise.
  7. Concession.
  8. Mandatory intermission? How long?
  9. Facility rules: Fire? Fire Marshall required.
  10. When is space available for rehearsals and technical set-up? When is strike time?
  11. Distance from juggling facility and housing to theatre. Is busing required? Cost.

Track

  1. Joggling track: University/High School
