: Festival / Possible second festival

: So I propose that we set up a second festival, Ginny had some options that had been presented in the past to go on, have it in the early fall. This would draw on a totally different group, there might be some over lap, but it would be clearly those who wanted to camp and didn't expect if any big show/s and might be priced around $100 or under and still be able to make some money for the IJA

: Your thoughts

My thoughts:

A separate IJA festival will dilute the interest in the primary IJA Festival, at least to some measure, and the second festival will likely have a higher cost than many existing "regional" festivals since it is still being organized by a separate entity (the IJA) instead of a local juggling community, which usually subsidizes the local festival significantly with donated club member time, an "in" to facilities, and sometimes other direct and indirect support.

While I would like the primary IJA festival costs to come down, I tend to be quite satisfied with the available regional festivals that provide a good 2-3 day experience, and doubt the competition between the IJA and regional festivals in the "low price" market is really a good thing for either interest group.

If there turns out to be a lot of support for a second IJA festival (other members may feel differently than I do), perhaps one solution would be more IJA involvement at one or more regional festivals, and perhaps expand one or two of them by a day or so if the IJA has something to bring to the table.

On the idea of IJA involvement at regional festivals: Since membership seems to be the key to spreading out IJA costs, and membership's only benefits to many members is the Juggle Magazine, the IJA needs to actively solicit Juggle Subscriptions (with the IJA membership a "bonus") in juggling communities. Last year, I did see some Juggle magazines at festivals, but there could be a better "Hey You -- Do you get a copy in the mail yet? -- here's the subscription form..." direct solicitation.

When folks are filling out the regional festival registration and paying their $15-$30, how about putting the option in front of them to write a check for the subscription at the same time? Sure, there are details to work out, but Juggle is pretty worthwhile to our juggling community.
