Abhoy Mitra is the most famous juggler in India. When you talk about the circus art of India, the first thing you will hear is the name of Abhoy Mitra. A juggler who loves his art, and will not leave it until death says otherwise.
Abhoy Mitra was born in a village in the city of Kumirmora, in India. His father, Kalosona Mitra, was the one who introduced him to the world of juggling. Kalosona Mitra died when Abhoy was only 10 years old, forcing his mother to sell household items in order to live. Abhoy was forced to leave juggling when his family went through an economic crisis, causing Abhoy to work in a factory 7 days a week, for long hours each day. After working, Abhoy trained juggling for a short time outside the factory, where his boss saw him and offered him another job, with better hours, so that Abhoy could study and work. The entrance exam to the university was difficult for Abhoy, but with the help of Mr. Biren Kha, president of the company, he managed to reach his goals and graduated in commerce. Abhoy continued training while working in several banks, until he was promoted to manager of UCO Bank. He retired from this same bank to be with his 3 children and his wife.

In 1978, Abhoy met the film director, Satyajit Ray. Abhoy showed him all of his tricks and the director was so impressed that he invited him to be part of the film Joy Baba Felunath, in 1979. This opportunity was the beginning of a series of appearances on the big screen, such as: Phatik Chand by director Sandip Ray in 1983, and Elo (movie of the year 1991) where Abhoy appears juggling balls.
In 1991, Abhoy was invited, along with his family, to France, to perform in 21 shows. Then, he was invited, along with his son Abhishek, to New Zealand, to perform in 23 shows.
Abhoy Mitra does not rest; he wants to teach juggling all over the world. He has performed more than 5,000 shows in the last 50 years (you can see the documentary about Abhoy Mitra by clicking here).
“Juggling is a form of art practiced by gypsies since ancient times, and my goal is to keep this form of art alive. I want to pass on my skills to at least 100 children in the next five years. Not only will it help you to concentrate and stay mentally and physically fit, you can also earn money with the shows. Over the years, I have played for children mentally and physically challenged and have loved my shows. I think my artistic juggling can really help those kids to develop motor skills.” Said Abhoy Mitra.
Abhoy has won several awards in India, such as the award given by the city of Kolkata, called: “Senior P.C. Sarcar Trophy. “The greatest juggler of India” in the year 1984, among others. Abhoy Mitra es el malabarista más famoso de la India. Cuando se habla del arte circense de la India, lo primero que escucharás es el nombre de Abhoy Mitra. Un malabarista que ama su arte y no lo dejará hasta que la muerte diga lo contrario.
Abhoy Mitra nació en un pueblo de la cuidad de Kumirmora, en la India. Su padre, Kalosona Mitra, fue quien lo introdujo en el mundo del malabarismo. El examen de ingreso a la universidad fue difícil para Abhoy, pero con ayuda de Mr. Biren Kha, presidente de una empresa, logró alcanzar sus metas y se graduó en comercio. Abhoy continuaba entrenando mientras trabajaba en varios bancos, hasta que fue ascendido a gerente del UCO Bank. Se retira de este mismo banco para estar junto a sus 3 hijos y su esposa.

En el año 1991, Abhoy fue invitado, junto a su familia, a Francia, para actuar en 21 espectáculos. Luego, fue invitado, junto a su hijo Abhishek, a Nueva Zelanda, para actuar en 23 espectáculos.

No solo los ayudará a concentrarse y mantenerse mental y físicamente en forma, también pueden ganar dinero con los shows. A lo largo de los años, me he desempeñado para niños mentalmente y físicamente desafiados y han amado mis shows. Creo que mis malabarismos artísticos realmente pueden ayudar a esos niños a desarrollar habilidades motoras”. Dice Abhoy Mitra.
