Alexander Gennadyevich Turabov was born in a remote village near Arkhangelsk, Russia, on August 3, 1953. He became interested in the circus when an announcement arrived in the town recruiting children for a circus tour that was coming to the city.

Alexander studied circus arts empirically through articles, magazines, press releases, and the testimonies he heard. He created his own juggling props and rehearsed seven to eight hours a day.

When the circus came to his town, Alexander saw a tightrope walker who combined juggling and balancing. He was so amazed by the circus that, after the show, he went home to look for something to make his own equipment. His parents allowed him to attend the circus club where he learned circus techniques with music. He alternated his school schedule with circus classes.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Soviet Navy, where he continued training in his spare time and performed for his classmates. After completing his time in the Soviet Navy, he prepared to enter the State University of Economics and Law.

His entry into GUTSEI (Russian Circus School) was not easy: he tried several times to be accepted until he was finally admitted to the second year of the physical education and acrobatics program. His teacher was Firs Zemtsev, one of GUTSEI’s best juggling instructors, whose students included Eugene Biljauer, among many others.

With the advice of Zemtsev and T. Yugova, Alexander created an act where hoop juggling, balancing on a rope on a chair and a ladder, and saxophone music blended in a harmony that the audience could enjoy. With this act, he graduated from GUTSEI.

Alexander married Lyubova Ivanovna Turabova, a graduate of the Russian Institute of Culture. She joined Alexander’s act with dance choreography and later with acrobatic acts. The following is a description of Lyubova’s participation in Alexander’s act, from the October 1987 issue of Soviet Variety and Circus:

“Lyubova climbed the inclined rope to the platform, twirled six rings there, tossed them back and forth with her partner, and then quickly slid down the same inclined rope to the arena.”

Alexander Turabov – malabarista, equilibrista y músico

Alexander Gennadyevich Turabov nació en un pueblo remoto de Arkhangelsk, ciudad de Rusia, el 3 de agosto de 1953. Se interesó en el circo cuando al pueblo llegó el anuncio del reclutamiento de niños para una gira con un circo que llegaba a la ciudad.

Alexander estudió las artes circenses empíricamente por medio de artículos, revistas, notas de prensa, y testimonios que escuchaba. Creó sus propios objetos de malabares y ensayó de siete a ocho horas diarias.

Cuando el circo llegó a su ciudad, Alexander pudo ver a un equilibrista en un cable que combinaba malabares con equilibrios. Quedó tan asombrado con el circo que, al finalizar el show fue a su casa a buscar con qué hacer su propia implementación. Sus padres lo dejaron asistir al club del circo donde pudo aprender técnicas circenses con música Alternaba su horario de clases en el colegio con las clases de circo.

Tras graduarse del colegio se enlistó en La Marina de la URSS, donde continuó entrenando en sus tiempos libres y donde realizó presentaciones a sus compañeros. Al terminar su etapa en La Marina se preparó para ingresar a la Universidad Estatal de Economía y Derecho.

Su ingreso a GUTSEI (Escuela de circo de Rusia) no fue fácil: intentó ser aceptado en varias ocasiones, hasta que pudo ser admitido en el segundo año de la carrera de educación física y acrobacia. Tuvo como profesor a Firs Zemtsev, uno de los mejores profesores de malabares de GUTSEI, quien tuvo entre sus estudiantes, entre muchos otros, a Eugene Bilyauer.

Con el asesoramiento de Zemtsev, y T. Yugova, Alexander creó un acto donde el malabarismo con aros, el equilibrio en la cuerda encima de una silla y de una escalera, y la música del saxofón, se mezclan en una armonía que el público puede disfrutar sin aburrimiento. Con ese acto se graduó de GUTSEI.

Alexander se casó con Lyubova Ivanovna Turabova, graduada del Instituto de Cultura de Rusia. Se unió al acto de Alexander con coreografías de baile; luego, con actos acrobáticos. La siguiente es una descripción de la participación de Lyubova en el acto de Alexander, de la revista Variedades y Circo Soviético, de octubre de 1987:

“Lyubova subió por la cuerda inclinada hasta la plataforma, hizo girar seis anillos allí, los arrojó de un lado a otro con su pareja y luego se deslizó rápidamente por la misma cuerda inclinada hasta la arena”.
