I often bring something to the IJA Festival for jugglers to try. A couple of times I brought the Chaos Clubs, which are the world’s most difficult clubs to juggle. You can see videos of the Chaos Clubs being attempted below.
As the 2022 IJA Festival was getting closer, I saw online that a number of talented hoop jugglers / rollers were going to be attending the fest. This gave me an idea. I decided to bring a set of three of Bob Bramson’s wooden hoops. If you don’t know who Bob Bramson is, then you’re in for a treat. He is the most famous and the most talented (along with Howard Nichols, who is considered his equal) hoop rolling juggler of all time. Let’s take a look at Bob using his hoops in performance.
Bob had donated nine of his wooden hoops to the Museum of Juggling History and I had a set of three large ones not currently on display. Therefore, I decided to bring them along for hoop jugglers to try at the fest. These are much heavier than modern plastic hoops and feature a concave outer edge rather than a convex edge.
The first to try was Callum Baker from the UK. Callum is extremely talented and certainly one of the top hoop rolling jugglers currently performing. He even recently achieved a long-held dream of doing a run of four hoops down his back.
Let’s take a look at what Callum was able to do with Bob Bramson’s heavy wooden hoops.
Next up was Cameron Ford, who often works with Callum and is also from the UK.
Fernanda (Fer) Sumano is a Mexican hoop juggler who has been wowing audiences for years. She was the winner of the IJA’s first IRC competition and got a standing ovation in the Cascade of Stars show this year at IJA. Let’s take a look at her work with her plastic hoops followed by her trying out Bob Bramson’s hoops.
Next up was Stacey Strange.
Stacey tried out some floor rolling with good success.
Finally, Amy Wieliczka of Oakland, California gave the wooden hoops a try. Check out her work with plastic hoops and then her experiments with Bob Bramson’s hoops.
All five jugglers were successful with Bob Bramson’s heavy wooden hoops and seemed happy to be able to try out props from such a legendary juggler.
ボブ・ブラムソンの木製フープは「使える」のか？
IJA フェスティバルに変わったものを持っていき、ジャグラーに試してもらうことがある。カオス・クラブというものを持って行ったこともあって、世界一ジャグリングしにくいクラブとして紹介した。カオス・クラブを試し投げしてもらった様子は以下。
2022 年の IJA フェスティバル開催が近づいていた頃、実力派のフープジャグラーたちがフェスティバルに参加することがわかった。そこで筆者は、ボブ・ブラムソン（Bob Bramson）が使用していた木製フープのセットを持っていくことにしたのである。ボブ・ブラムソンについて知らない方のために、補足しておこう。彼は史上一番有名、かつ一番の実力を持つ（ハワード・ニコルス（Howard Nichols）も同等の実力を持つとされる）フープジャグラーである。以下の動画で、彼の演技を見てみよう。
ボブ・ブラムソンはかつて、使用していた 9 本の木製フープをジャグリング歴史博物館に寄贈してくれたことがある。そのうち現在展示していない、３ 本の大きいものがあった。そこでそれをフェスティバルに持っていって、フープジャグラーたちに使ってみてもらうことにした。現在のプラスチック製フープに比べるとだいぶ重量があり、外周は膨らんでおらず、凹んでいる。
最初にトライしてくれたのは、イギリス出身のカラム・ベイカー（Callum Baker）。カラムは才能あふれるジャグラーで、現役パフォーマーの中でも、間違いなくトップの実力を持つフープジャグラーである。最近、長年の夢であった、4 本のフープを背中でロールさせる技も身につけている。

次に、キャメロン・フォード（Cameron Ford）。カラムとも共演することがあり、同じくイギリス出身。

5 人とも、ボブ・ブラムソンが使用していた重い木製フープをうまくジャグリングしてくれた。伝説的ジャグラーの道具を試すことができ、嬉しそうな様子でもあった。
