It Won't Happen Again, is a 15 minute video featuring Tony Pezzo, filmed by Wes Peden in perhaps the juggling capital of the world. The video features Tony's latest and greatest club juggling techniques, and is divided into 3 main sections: Magnetic Clubs, Club Party, and Five Club. Magnetic Clubs is a section inspired by Ameron Rosvall, and has some maneuvers that are insurmountable with normal clubs. Club Party is a 3 club trick section, about getting outside before it starts snowing again. Five Club displays symmetry, spin crossover, scissor transition, and other fanciful things.

The full video is available exclusively for IJA members. Enjoy!

Six months of finding a Chilean contact, four months of planning, countless Facebook messages, two promotional graphics, two hard working coordinators, one donated flight to Santiago, three medals designed and ordered, 13 prelim video submissions, 10 finalists, one rushed set up of a circus tent and stage, 5 judges, one tech rehearsal, and hundreds of audience members filing into the tent – and the first ever IJA Regional Competition in Chile commenced!

And what a competition it was!
We hope you enjoy this exclusive IJA member coverage of the first IRC in South America!

A couple things you should know before you begin watching:

1. The good quality camera that was going to be used for this video died the day after the competition. This footage was the only other full coverage of the competition we could find, and we are grateful to Rotundo Mutundo for allowing us to use it. Our apologies for any poor quality that exists.

2. The silver medalist, Yuri, requested that his routine not be included in the video, as he prefers to have his act viewed live. As we had not specified in the rules that the video would be made available to IJA members, we honored his request. He is included in the awards ceremony, but his routine is not presentin the video.

3. The camera recording the competition ran out of batteries for the final act. Erin Stephens captured the second half of this routine on her iPad, and that is the footage you will see.

And now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the skills of 9 impressive Chilean and Peruvian jugglers!

Thank you for being a member of the IJA and making programs like this possible!

This video is first and foremost about having fun with juggling. Jay Gilligan presents a number of accessible creative suggestions of ways to look at juggling that aren't just based on technical skill and can be executed with basic props that we mostly all have. He demonstrates ways to "breaks the rules" through such things as picking up additional props or throwing/hitting others away in the middle of a pattern. You'll surely be inspired to try something new that you might have never thought was acceptable to do before.

136 is Jay's IJA life membership number. Jay will be teaching special workshops at the IJA festival this summer (https://www.juggle.org/ija/festival/2013-ija-festival-festival-summary/2013-ija-festival-special-workshops/) and he recently published a stunning book about juggling. See http://www.fourthshape.com/index.php?/show/5catches/ for details.

This column explores different art-forms and the creatives who work in them. We look at how choreographers approach their work, what an improviser needs in his tool kit to do well, and how a painter sees the world. In each case I will apply the techniques of each specific art-form to juggling and demonstrate ways in which we can apply the creativity of other disciplines to our own.

To call Cookie Gluck a costumer may be a little bit misleading. Her work has transcended that title. She has become a highly sought after designer of mascot costumes for sports franchises like the Chicago Bulls, Detroit Lions, and the Boston Celtics. In addition to that, she has created corporate mascots for products ranging from pharmaceuticals to cell phones. Personally, I have spent a lot of time animating her creations from the inside, both as Benny the Bull and as a giant stomach at trade shows for the drug Prevacid. Cookie is a prolific creator and I was grateful for her clearing a part of her schedule to make time for the interview that follows.

This month I interviewed one of the world’s greatest clowns, Avner the Eccentric. I first met Avner Eisenberg in 1995 when I was studying theater at Dell Arte. He had a huge impact on me because he had challenged many of the things that made up the artistic rules I had acquired as a self-taught juggler and street performer.

The thing that makes his work such a standout is the way in which he connects to his audience, allowing them to not only be entertained but also to feel moved emotionally. In addition to performing, Avner is a master teacher, so he excels at articulating the artistic principles that make the up the framework of what he does.

In 2002, Avner was inducted into the International Clown Hall of Fame. He has performed at Lincoln Center and had two long runs on Broadway. He was also cast as The Jewel in the feature film The Jewel of the Nile.
