I’m Charlie Nayler, and I am from the North of England, and I have been using objects for just over three years. Prior to this I trained as a contemporary dancer and have since had a strong desire to fuse movement with object manipulation.
In this video I am using my acro staff and a cane, a combination I started playing with in December 2024. Over these last three years, I have gained such a love for juggling and object manipulation and how we can find fluidity with technical patterns/tricks whilst also combining movement that hopefully resonates with an audience. I look forward to a lifetime of research and gaining more understanding of how we can play with objects.
I would like to thank Jasper Marriott, Laura Shepherd, Megan Alder-Cox, and Josh Mattinson, all of whom were the catalyst for me starting to dance.
Also a huge thank you to the people who brought me into the world of prop manipulation and to all the people that push the fusion of dance and object manipulation.
I recorded the video in Pai, Thailand, at various spots around town. This is where I first discovered the flow arts/circus scene so it was really nice to be here whilst filming the video.
