It was natural that, due to the diabolo invasion in Europe in the 20th century, that game would go through some new creations or modifications to make it more variable.
So, it was. Mr. P. A. Vaile, of New Zealand, invented (believed to be in the early 1900s) the double diabolo. It consisted of two joined diabolos and two strings, one for each axis.

His inventor assured that the game was too easy, you just have to practice and measure the correct angles of the diabolo, not look at the second string and calculate that the outer diabolo and the outer string match. However, many skilled diabolists argued that it was not, as basic tricks like throwing and re-catching made it difficult.
The new game had expectations to be the best, but for some reason double diabolo didn’t have enough support and just like diabolo tennis (game similar to tennis, but the ball was replaced by diabolo) it got lost in history.

That seems that Mr. P. A. Vaile in 1900 use 2 strings but it is more spectacular with one string. Did he use the double diabolo with 1 string ? As it has precession the user must whirl like a dervish

Hello, Gilles.
The double diabolo in the article was played with two strings. It’s great to see your experiment. There is much to explore.
Greetings.
