Different jugglers are known for different things. Lottie Brunn was known for her speed. Ernest Montego was known for his grace and Kris Kremo for his stylish flair. Eva Vida was known for her glamor. In fact, many of her publicity photos included the words “Glamour and Novelty” on them. From her props to her costume, her tricks to her bows, Eva Vida was always elegant and glamorous.
Hailing from Hungary, Eva, who’s birth name was Eva Vida-Vidos and who also sometimes performed under the name Eva Vidos, graduated from the Budapest School of Circus Arts in 1959. She integrated her experience in ballet with wonderful skills that included five balls with pocket catches, a six ring color change, a five club act that included juggling four with another balanced on her head as well as five under both legs, three umbrellas, and six rings with a forehead balance. She was the co-winner of the Rastelli competition in 1973 and was the only woman to ever take home that prize.
If you have never seen Eva’s act, you’re in for a treat. Below is a video of Eva’s wonderful act from 1983 as well as four links to additional videos of Eva.

Eva is now retired and lives in Vienna, Austria. She recently sent two clubs, two rings, and a stack of photos to me at the Historical Juggling Props Museum. Her clubs are some of the most unique props I’ve ever seen. They feature mother of pearl handles, a very soft, plush body covered in lush golden material and decorated with hundreds of rhinestones. You can see a picture of one below, but photos can not do them justice. Even her props are special and glamorous.
Below are photos from throughout her amazing career.
Eva Vida continues to amaze and inspire today’s jugglers. One big fan of Eva is well-known performer Gena Shvartsman Cristiani. Here’s what Gena had to say regarding Eva: “Eva Vida has played such a huge role in my life as a female juggler. I was enamored with her from age 6! From her graceful, classy, yet sassy persona on stage to her beautiful long legs as she did under leg kick ups while juggling 5 clubs and in heels, she was my life-long inspiration. She really made such an impact on me. I watched her as a kid and I was like… I’m going to be her when I grow up. Even now, when I watch her, she reminds me of how to pay attention to every step I take on stage. And her clubs are even rhinestoned. Enough said! Her tricks certainly matched her beauty.”
Another huge fan of Eva is newer juggler Danielle Tilk from the vaudeville duo Pinch and Squeal. Here’s what she had to say about Eva Vida. “I’ve always been impressed by female jugglers, admiring their profession and dedication, but my first 20 seconds of watching Eva I was floored. Not only does she demonstrate extraordinary skill, but she’s incredibly beautiful and has that certain show business charm and grace that very few performers are gifted with. She catches your eye immediately and you cannot tear your eyes away!! She’s aware of her audience and you can tell she loves them and she loves what she’s doing. There is not one inch of her that isn’t performing when she’s onstage!! Eva is absolute perfection! She NEVER stops moving – when she changes props her show doesn’t stop. THAT is a mark of an incredible performer to me. She dances her way over to her stand and back, poses at every stall and performs the entire time. How can you not be hooked?!”
