The international slackline community and the Colombian juggling community are in mourning. Felipe “Chimi” Ossa, one of the best slackliners in Colombia, passed away. His death occurred after accidentally falling from a height of 20 meters while practicing.
Andrés Felipe Ossa was from the city of Medellín, Colombia. He was born on February 16, 1988 and later studied at the José Félix Restrepo School. As a young man, he became interested in the arts – he attended theater, circus, and juggling workshops – but his passion was the slackline. On the rope, he innovated with his fascinating tricks, which he mixed with juggling. A lover of risk, he crossed rivers, ravines, at heights that few dared to reach. His excellent physical condition allowed him to practice other disciplines such as cycling and frisbee. The latter instilled him with dedication.

Felipe amazed those who could see him from afar. He attended slackline festivals, where he earned the respect of all his colleagues. He was one of the best wire walkers in Colombia. He trained many hours; he usually went to train around the Atanasio Girardot Stadium, in Medellín. This place is the meeting point for jugglers in that city.

Together with his daughter, Celestina, they instructed the neighborhood children. Felipe, a man with a social sense, gave his art to those who needed it.
But on January 6, 2021, Felipe Ossa was practicing slackline in a place known to him: the Robledo La Campiña sector. He was walking on the rope at 20 meters high. He had been on the rope for more than 20 minutes, without realizing that he had not attached his safety line. His balance failed and, sadly, he fell into the void. His friends went to give him first aid immediately. In the middle of trees, they found Felipe. He had fractures to his arms and skull, and several bruises. After 40 minutes, the paramedics were able to go down to the area and ruled Ossa dead.

According to the International Slackline Association, in the past three years, three experienced rope tightrope walkers have died from forgetting to tie their safety gear.

La comunidad Slackline internacional y la comunidad de malabaristas colombianos están de luto. Falleció Felipe Ossa “Chimi”, uno de los mejores exponentes de este deporte en Colombia. Su muerte se produjo tras caer accidentalmente de una altura de 20 metros mientras practicaba Slackline.
Andrés Felipe Ossa es oriundo de la cuidad de Medellín, Colombia. Nació el 16 de febrero de 1988. Realizó sus estudios en la escuela José Félix Restrepo. De joven, se interesó por las artes: asistió a talleres de teatro, circo, y malabarismo; pero su pasión fue el Slackline. En la cuerda, innovó con sus fascinantes trucos, que los mezclaba con malabares. Amante del riesgo, cruzaba ríos, quebradas, a alturas donde pocos se atrevían a llegar. Su excelente estado físico le permitió practicar otras disciplinas: ciclismo y Frisbee. Este último lo entrenó con dedicación.

Felipe asombraba a los que lo podían ver desde lejos. Asistió a los festivales de Slackline, donde ganó el respeto de todos sus colegas. Fue uno de los mejores equilibristas de cuerda de Colombia. Entrenaba muchas horas; solía ir a entrenar, por lo general, a los alrededores del Estadio Atanasio Girardot, en Medellín. Este lugar es el punto de encuentro de los malabaristas en esa ciudad.

Junto a su hija, Celestina, maquillaban artísticamente a los niños del vecindario. Así mismo, les enseñaba a equilibrarse en la cuerda. Felipe, un hombre con sentido social, dio su arte a los que lo necesitaron.
Pero el 6 de enero de 2021, Felipe Ossa se encontraba practicando Slackline en un lugar conocido para él: sector de Robledo La Campiña. Estaba caminando en la cuerda a 20 metros de altura. Llevaba más de 20 minutos en la cuerda, sin darse cuenta de que no estaba sujetado a nada, no tenía seguridad. Su equilibrio falló y, lamentablemente, cayó al vacío. Sus amigos fueron a prestarle los primeros auxilios de inmediato. En medio de árboles encontraron a Felipe. Tenía fracturas en los brazos y cráneo, y varios hematomas. Luego de 40 minutos, los paramédicos pudieron bajar a la zona y dictaminaron el fallecimiento de Felipe.
Según International Slackline Association, durante los tres últimos años han muerto tres experimentados equilibristas de cuerda por olvido de atarse sus implementos de seguridad.
Felipe Ossa deja a su hija Celestina menor de 10 años, a su familia y a sus amigos de vida. Mis condolencias a todos sus familiares.
