2020 IJA Online Juggling Championships

About the IJA Online Juggling Championships

The International Jugglers’ Association is pleased to announce the 2020 IJA Online Juggling Championships! This event is based on the structure and rules of the IJA Juggling Championships normally held at the annual IJA Festival, but with some modifications to accommodate this year’s unique circumstances:

  • There will be no live event. Competitors will compete via videos recorded for this competition.
  • Videos shot on or after March 1, 2020, are eligible for the competition.
  • Videos must not include a live audience or show anyone else within six feet of the juggler.
  • There is no preliminary round. All qualifying entries will advance directly into competition.
  • Entries will be accepted only in the Individuals and Juniors divisions. In the spirit of social distancing, we will unfortunately not have a Teams division this year.
  • Instead of a panel of expert judges, the entire IJA membership will be invited to judge the competition entries in the five categories of Juggling Difficulty, Juggling Creativity, Juggling Execution, Entertainment Value, and Presentation.

Jugglers born on or after July 16, 2002, are eligible to compete in the Juniors division in the 2020 Online Championships. Additionally, all jugglers born on or after that date will remain eligible to compete as Juniors in the next live IJA Juggling Championships, hopefully in 2021, even if they turn 18 before then.

You must be an IJA member to enter. Aside from the special rules above, the IJA Juggling Championships Rules will be observed where applicable, at the discretion of the IJA Championships directors.

How To Enter

To enter the IJA Juggling Championships, please do the following by 11:59pm EDT on June 30, 2020:

  • If you’re not a current IJA member, join or renew.
  • Read the IJA Music Policy to understand what music you can use in your competition act. For 2020, the IJA has taken steps to ensure that copyrighted music can be used for Championships and show performances for viewing on social media. From our understanding, our current music policy should apply. In the instance that one of the social media platforms decides a video cannot be hosted, the IJA will attempt to correct the situation with the platform host. If it cannot be corrected, the IJA will play the video without sound and may note what songs the performance uses for the audience to listen along if they choose.
  • Read the IJA Juggling Championships Rules to understand the requirements for your act and how it will be judged.
  • Make a video of one unedited single-camera shot of your complete routine, between five and eight minutes long (five to seven minutes in the Juniors division), shot in landscape (horizontal) orientation with live audio, and upload your video to the IJA Online Championships Entry Dropbox. The video must have been shot on or after March 1, 2020, and must not include a live audience or show anyone else within six feet of the juggler. Please do not make the video available on any other platform.
  • Pay the $25 entry fee.
  • Submit an IJA Online Juggling Championships entry form.

After that, the competition will proceed as follows:

  • Sunday, July 5: Entry videos are made available for viewing by IJA members, who can then enter their scores.
  • Thursday, July 16: Last day for members to enter scores.
  • Saturday, July 18: Winners announced in the Cascade of Stars show.
