My name is Aileen Lawlor, and I live in Oakland, California & Esteli, Nicaragua. I began exploring contact staff in 2006, and my journey with the prop encouraged me to study different forms of movement. I teach contact staff online and in group classes in the Bay Area of California. I have spent the majority of the last 5 years in Nicaragua sharing my experience of fire & flow arts to vulnerable youth and fellow artists.
This video is shot at El Nido de las Artes, a social circus community center in the northern Nicaraguan town of Esteli. This video is a homage to my time there, and to all of the artists that have come through El Nido to share memories, skills, and contributed to making the space a safe & beautiful place for the kids & budding artists of the neighborhood.
