“Being a great artist and person is the secret.” –Anderson Pereira Da Silva.
Anderson is considered the best juggler in Brazil. And it is not for nothing; he has performed such difficult tricks that only a few people in the world have managed to do them. For example: 7 clubs backcrosses, 5 clubs Alberts, etc. His exploits have earned him national and international recognition.
Da Silva was born to be a juggler. As a child, with his humble innocence, he avoided the dangers to which children are exposed. He watched with curiosity the daily life of his neighbors; he didn’t understand anything, nor why they did what they did, he just wanted to let the adrenaline out of him. Juggling is one of the best activities for adventurous people who want to challenge and excel.
Anderson came into the world on July 6, 1991, in São Paulo. He was introduced to juggling on one of his urban day trips from work. A nickname, affectionately, that his friends gave him was “Neguinho” (black, in its translation into Spanish. Common and colloquial nickname in South America). The world, at that moment, opened his eyes and showed him his path: art.
He has worked in circuses such as: Circo dos Sonhos, Turma da Mônica no Mundo do Circo. Her talent reached circuses in Italy and Saudi Arabia. Now, he works in Peru, at Circo La Tarumba.
In international competitions, he participated twice in the IRC, of the International Association of Jugglers: second place in the IRC Colombia, 2016; third place in the IRC Paraguay, 2018.
Also, he was invited to the world’s largest sports juggling event in Las Vegas in 2019, where he won the 3 club freestyle competition. He placed second in the advanced general championship; also, in 5 clubs and 5 freestyle balls.
Esteban Velez: How did you discover juggling?
Anderson Pereira: As a child, I watched jugglers on television, but Ididn’t know how they did it. Just before I became a juggler, I used to sell candy on the buses (trolebús buses, on the Diadema route, in São Paulo) until one day I met a juggler at the traffic light. He was very nice to me; he was the first juggler in my life; he changed everything until today. The name of the first juggler in my life is Igor Lagos.
(In an interview, Anderson recalls that episode as follows: “(…) I sold sweets on the Diadema trolleybus (…) I was five years old, so I always lived on the street. (…) I even sold until 12 years old. I got on the trolleybus where the driver was so kind that when I arrived, he opened the middle door. (…) And to this day I get on the trolleybus and I remember it”).
E.V.: At what age did you start going to stoplights to perform?
A.P.: At 13 years old.
E.V.: What was your first juggling prop?
A.P.: Flowerstick.

E.V.: Following the line of jugglers, who are the jugglers that inspire you the most and why?
A.P.: Actually, there are three: Anthony Gatto, for his 7 clubs and his world record. Alexander Kiss and Violetta Kiss, for being so creative in their actions.
E.V.: Where did the fanaticism for Anthony Gatto come from?
A.P.: Anthony Gatto, for me, is a supreme inspiration, because he is a great artist. In addition, my friends who were with him said that he is a kind person and that is why I have great respect for his story. Being a great artist and person is the secret.

E.V.: Tell us about his experience at the Circo Di Napoli and in Saudi Arabia.
A.P.: My experience at the Circo Di Napoli is very nice. There I do my act with much affection. Saudi Arabia was an unusual experience, it is a very religious country, so you have to follow the laws of the country, but they are very friendly, and the public is very affectionate.

E.V.: Now, let’s talk about your IRC experience.
A.P.: I was twice on IRC. For me, it was a spectacular experience to share the stage with great artists from various countries. Many thanks to Erin Stephens [for organizing them].

E.V.: The WJF event was something extraordinary. How did you feel in Las Vegas with jugglers as talented as Eivind Dragsjø, Iver Tronstad, among others…?
A.P.: WJF, for me, was a dream come true. Since 2004, on ESPN International, I watched that program and, in my thoughts, I said, “one day I’m going to be in Las Vegas.” In 2019, Jason Garfield invited me there. The prettiest thing: there was Vova and Olga Galchenko, the beautiful asperos* of world juggling.
*Aspero is an adjective that translates into something like incredible, amazing.

E.V.: What is your favorite trick?
A.P.: 5 backcrosses with clubs and 3 body throw clubs (alberts).
“With Anderson it was like that. At first, he wanted to know what European conventions were like. (…) I was one of the many who donated clubs to Anderson so that he could train and not interrupt such a promising career. And the craziest thing: his biggest idol was Anthony Gatto, and he wanted to be like the guy, in everything, and I said: ‘You don’t have to imitate him’ (he said this because he thought he would never get close to the legend ‘Gatto’), but Anderson is so special, he trained a lot, and he got there. He today he does almost all the kid’s tricks and a few more. (…) Now he is the one who teaches everyone.” André Carvalho (Mountain), for Baú Circo no Beco.

E.V.: We know that you are a fan of Michael Jackson…
A.P.: Michael Jackson is an inspiration to me, on stage, how he walked and greeted people… He was very affectionate with his audience, that really catches my attention.
E.V.: What other singers do you listen to?
A.P.: I love old songs from Brazil, and I also like Queen.
E.V.: Of the countries you have visited, which foods do you like the most?
A.P.: Peruvian Food. 100%.
E.V.: What projects do you have before the end of this year?
A.P.: I would love to come back to the WJF.

“Ser gran artista y persona es el secreto”.

Anderson es considerado el mejor malabarista de Brasil. Y no es para menos, ha realizado trucos tan difíciles que solo algunas personas en el mundo los han logrado hacer. Por ejemplo: 7 clavas en backcroos, 5 clavas Alberts, etc. Sus hazañas le han valido reconocimientos nacionales e internacionales.
Da Silva nació para ser malabarista. De pequeño, con su humilde inocencia, esquivaba los peligros a los que están expuestos los niños. Veía con curiosidad el día a día de sus vecinos; no entendía nada, ni por qué hacían lo que hacían, solo quería dejar salir su adrenalina. El malabarismo es una de las mejores actividades para las personas aventureras, que se quieren desafiar y superarse.
Anderson llegó al mundo el 6 de julio de 1991, en São Paulo. Conoció el malabarismo en una de sus excursiones urbanas de un día de trabajo. Un sobrenombre que le dieron sus amigos fue el de “Neguinho” (negro, en su traducción al español. Apodo común y coloquial en Suramérica). El mundo, en ese momento, le abrió los ojos y le mostró su camino: el arte.
Ha trabajado en circos como: Circo dos Sonhos, Turma da Mônica no Mundo do Circo. Su talento llegó a circos en Italia y Arabia Saudita. Ahora, trabaja en Perú, en Circo La Tarumba.
En competencias internacionales, participó en dos ocasiones en las IRC, de la Asociación internacional de malabaristas: segundo lugar en la IRC Colombia, 2016; tercer lugar en la IRC Paraguay, 2018.
Así mismo, fue invitado al evento de malabarismo deportivo más grande del mundo en Las Vegas, en 2019, donde ganó la competencia 3 clavas freestyle. Quedó de segundo lugar en el campeonato general avanzado; también, en 5 clavas y 5 pelotas freestyle.
Esteban Velez: ¿Cómo conoció el malabarismo?
Anderson Pereira: De niño, miraba en la televisión malabaristas, pero no sabía cómo lo hacían. Justo antes de ser malabarista, vendía caramelos en los buses (buses de trolebús, de la ruta Diadema, en São Paulo) hasta que un día conocí a un malabarista en el semáforo. Fue muy amable conmigo, fue el primer malabarista de mi vida; cambió todo hasta hoy. El nombre del primer malabarista de mi vida es Igor Lagos.
(En una entrevista, Anderson recuerda ese episodio de la siguiente manera: “(…) vendía dulces en el trolebús de Diadema (…) Yo tenía cinco años, entonces siempre viví en la calle. (…) Vendí hasta los 12 años. Llegué al trolebús, era tan amable con el conductor que yo llegaba y él ya abría la puerta del medio. (…) Y hasta el día de hoy me subo al trolebús y lo recuerdo”).
E.V.: ¿A qué edad empezó a ir al semáforo?
A.P: A los 13 años.
E.V.: ¿Cuál fue su primer juguete de malabares?
A.P.: Flowerstick.

E.V.: Siguiendo la línea de los malabaristas, ¿cuáles son los malabaristas que más le inspiran y por qué?
A.P.: En realidad, son tres: Anthony Gatto, por sus 7 clavas y su récord mundial. Alexander Kiss y Violetta Kiss, por ser tan creativos en sus actos.
E.V.: ¿De dónde nació el fanatismo por Anthony Gatto?
A.P.: Anthony Gatto, para mí, es una inspiración suprema, porque él es un gran artista. Además, mis amigos que estuvieron con él dijeron que es una amable persona y por eso tengo respeto muy grande por su historia. Ser gran artista y persona es el secreto.

E.V.: Háblenos de su experiencia en el circo de Nápoles y en Arabia saudita.
A.P.: Mi experiencia en el Circo Di Napoli es muy linda. Allá hago mi acto con mucho cariño. Arabia Saudita fue una experiencia fuera de lo normal, es un país muy religioso, entonces tienes que seguir las leyes del país, pero son muy amables y el público muy cariñoso.

A.P.: Yo estuve dos veces en la IRC. Para mí, fue una experiencia espectacular compartir escenario con grandes artistas de varios países. Muchas gracias a Erin Stephens.

E.V.: El evento de la WJF fue algo extraordinario. ¿Cómo se sintió en Las Vegas junto a malabaristas tan talentosos como Eivind Dragsjø, Iver Tronstad, entre otros…?
A.P.: WJF, para mí, fue un sueño cumplido. Desde 2004, en ESPN Internacional, yo miraba ese programa y en mis pensamientos decía “un día voy a estar en Las Vegas”. Justo, en 2019, Jason Garfield me invitó para allá. Lo más lindo: estaba Vova y Olga Galchenko, los hermosos ásperos* del malabarismo mundial.

“Con Anderson era así. Al principio, quería saber cómo eran las convenciones europeas. (…) Fui uno de los muchos que donaron clavas a Anderson para poder entrenar y no interrumpir una carrera tan prometedora. Y lo más loco: su mayor ídolo era Anthony Gatto, y él quería ser como el tipo, en todo, y dije: ‘No tienes que imitarle’ (dijo esto porque pensó que nunca alcanzaría cercano a la leyenda ‘Gatto’), pero Anderson es tan especial, que entrenó mucho, y llegó allí. A.P.: Michael Jackson es una inspiración para mí, en el escenario, cómo caminaba y saludaba la gente… Él fue muy cariñoso con su público, eso me llama mucho la atención.
E.V.: ¿Qué otros cantantes escucha?
A.P.: Me encanta canciones antiguas de Brasil y además me gusta Queen.
E.V.: De los países que ha visitado, ¿qué comidas le gustan más?
A.P.: La Comida peruana. 100%.
E.V.: ¿Qué proyectos tiene para antes de finalizar este año?
A.P.: Me encantaría volver a la WJF.
