IRC Oceania 2020

Laura Oakley

Wellington, New Zealand

Laura is a circus artist from Wellington, New Zealand. She specializes in hula hoops and aims to create fast paced performances that combine object manipulation, juggling, sass, and blend elements of traditional and contemporary circus. Laura recently started dabbling in juggling a lot more and loves the challenge, coordination and discipline of figuring out patterns with big hoops! She loves trying to innovate new sequences and skills and is always excited to perform.

Kozo Komatsubara

Auckland, New Zealand

Originally from Auckland, New Zealand, Kozo Komatsubara AKA Kozo Kaos is a Juggler, Magician, and Circus Stunt Performer. Now based in Melbourne, Australia Kaos is best known for his highly skilled juggling with the title of ‘New Zealand’s Fastest Juggler’ and is constantly touring around the world making appearances at Big Top Circus Shows, Festivals, Functions and Corporate Events. Kaos has been thrilling audiences all around the world for the past 10 years with his signature blend of comedy, danger and Rock n Roll.

Lisa Komatsubara

Auckland, New Zealand

With over 12 years of juggling experience, Lisa has travelled all around the world throughout her career. From touring all across New Zealand, to performing in Hollywood and Las Vegas, she has spent many years performing, teaching, and learning different juggling styles and techniques throughout her travels.

Zachary Washer

Auckland, New Zealand

Zaktakular is an international street performer from Auckland, New Zealand. He discovered juggling after meeting the Central City Circus at the young age of 13. Since then he attended the Circo Arts course in Christchurch and to much time with the juggling community of Auckland. After performing for several New Zealand based circus company’s, Zaktakular has sought bigger challenges in Europe, Moving to Germany and winning prizes in Ferrara Buskers festival and Neu-Ulm as well as a spektakular performance in Das Supertalent!

Michael Armstrong

Wellington, New Zealand

Michael Armstrong originally trained circus at CircoArts in Christchurch. He has since performed for Circus Aotearoa, at festivals around the world such as Edinburgh fringe, the world buskers festival and the Gwangju fringe festival in South Korea.

Craig McDermott

Auckland, New Zealand

Craig McDermott known onstage as Lucky McDermott started juggling at the age of 11, and trained in Wellington for the next 6 years. In the Years following that he has toured all over Nz with many circus shows including, Circus Aotearoa, Zirka Circus, The Kids Day Out Variety Show and The Going Bananas Show, As well as taking his street show all over the country and Overseas.

Rama Tapp

Wellington, New Zealand

Rama Tapp is a New Zealand based circus performer from Wellington who has recently finished his 3 year circus degree at whitireia and specialises in cigar box juggling as well as Chinese Pole. He has performed at the NZ Juggling and Circus Festival 2019 and in the menagerie as well as on national television.

IRCs of the World

Founded in 2011, the IJA Regional Competition (IRC) brings the IJA Stage Championship model to regional festivals around the world.  The goals of this program include:

  • To award competition routines with high caliber performance and technical skill, which are entertaining and marketable to a general public audience;
  • To promote the development and enhancement of juggling within each region;
  • To unite the international juggling community by spreading awareness of the jugglers and juggling culture in each region.
