In the 1980s, the former USSR celebrated its independence in style. The circus was one of the activities to pay tribute to such an important date. A National Circus Festival was held. All the disciplines of the humble circus participated. Among the talented competitors, the jury, unfortunately, could only choose three winning acts, which were: aerial gymnast, Nadezhna Drozdova; the horse trainer, Anatoly Kalugin; and the young hula artist, Marina Kordaban.
Marina surprised the jury with a striking object: a balancing ball with glittering accessories, just like the ball that lit up the nightclubs before. While balancing on the big ball, she rotated more than fifteen hulas in her body, to the rhythm of the ambient song. Her original performance aroused the amazement of the public and the jury, for which she won the honorary title of the circus art contest of the entire Soviet Union.

Kordaban was born in Taganrog, Russia, in January 1957. She is a juggler, acrobat, and contortionist. Her shows grew and gained popularity throughout Russia. She also performed another incredible act: she stood on her head, and without using her hands, she spun a hula hoop around her waist.
Fame was immediate. In 1984, she was hired to act in the film “The Shining World,” by Russian director Bulat Mansurov. Her appearance led to the opening of many contracts with circuses as well as television presentations.

En los años 80, la extinta URSS celebraba su aniversario por todo lo alto. El circo fue una de las actividades para rendir homenaje a tan importante fecha. Se realizó un Festival de Circo a nivel nacional. Participaron todas las disciplinas del humilde circo. Entre los talentosos competidores, el jurado, lastimosamente, solo pudo elegir tres actos ganadores, que fueron: la gimnasta aérea, Nadezhna Drozdova; el entrenador de caballos, Anatoly Kalugin; y la joven artista de hulas, Marina Kordaban.
Marina sorprendió al jurado con un objeto llamativo: una bola de equilibrio con accesorios resplandecientes, igual a la bola que iluminaba las discotecas de antes. Mientras se equilibraba en la gran bola, giraba más de quince hulas en su cuerpo, al ritmo de la canción de ambiente. Su actuación original despertó el asombro del público y del jurado, por lo que ganó el título honorifico del concurso de arte circense de toda la Unión Soviética.

Kordaban nació en Taganrog, Rusia, en enero del año 1957. Es malabarista, acróbata y contorsionista. Sus espectáculos fueron creciendo y ganado popularidad en toda Rusia. Realizó otro acto increíble: se puso de cabezas, y sin sostenerse con las manos, gira un hula en su cintura.
La fama no se hizo esperar. En 1984, fue contratada para actuar en la película “El Mundo brillante”, del director ruso Bulat Mansurov. Su aparición ocasionó la apertura de muchos contratos con circos o presentaciones en televisión.
