Plate Waltzing is a rare type of plate spinning which goes back to at least the mid-1800s. It involves spinning upside down plates or bowls on the surface of a long table. It may have been invented by famous magician and ventriloquist Signor Blitz (1810-1877). He was famous enough for performing plate waltzing that an actual waltz was written to celebrate his skill. One well-known master of the skill was plate spinner Erich Brenn. You can see him perform his famous act from the Ed Sullivan Show below. Be sure to watch for his plate waltzing intertwined with his other plate spinning and juggling skills.
As you may have noticed, some plate waltzing performers use their fingers to spin the plates while others, such as Charles Ancaster, use a small stick. It’s best to use plates that are very heavy toward or on the rim and lighter in the middle.
Daniel Gorski is one of only a few modern jugglers who include plate waltzing in their act.
In Albania, plate waltzing is done using a copper pan as part of folk music, where it is combined with percussion and singing.
As we’ve seen, plate waltzing can be a stand alone trick or can be integrated with other juggling skills. So find a plate or bowl with a heavy rim and try out this rare skill.
プレートワルツ
プレートワルツ（Plate Waltzing）は、皿回しの一種である。その歴史は少なくとも 1800 年代半ばにさかのぼる。長テーブルの上で、逆さにした皿やボウルを回転させる芸だ。 発明者は有名なマジシャンであり腹話術師でもあったシニョール・ブリッツ（Signor Blitz）（1810-1877）と言われる。その皿回しは有名で、その技術を称えるために実際のワルツが作られたほどである。下記画像はその楽譜。
もう 1 人の有名なプレートワルツパフォーマーは、マジシャンのジョン・ネヴィル・マスケリン（John Nevil Maskelyne）（1839-1917）だ。皿を自在に操り、下のイラストと写真のように、皿が螺旋状のスロープを上ったり下ったりする、という芸を行っていたようである。

有名なジャグラーでありマジシャンのフェリシアン・トルウィー（Felicien Trewey）も、1896 年の以下の映像でプレートワルツを演じている。
1893 年のポスターでは、カルロ・ロメオ（Carlo Romeo）がプレートワルツを演じているところが見られる。
セヴェルス・シャファー（Severus Schaffer）は、片手でバランスを取りながら、足の上でボウルを回し、かつ頭の上でランプのバランスも取りながら、プレートワルツをしていた。

ウィリアム・デ・リーズル（William De Lisle）は、1910 年に出版した「The Art of Juggling」の中で、プレートワルツの解説ページを設けている。下記画像参照。

プレートワルツの名人として有名なのが、皿回しのエーリッヒ・ブレン（Erich Brenn）だ。エド・サリバン・ショーで披露された有名な演技がこちら。別の種類の皿回しとジャグリングの技を織り交ぜたプレートワルツに注目。
ここまででも見られたように、プレートワルツパフォーマーは指を使う人と、チャールズ・アンカスターのように小さい棒を使う人がいる。お皿は、縁に向かうほど重く、真ん中が軽いものを使うとよい。
ジャン・ルモワン（Jean Lemoine）も、次のように、皿回しの演技の中に、プレートワルツを少し取り入れている。
ダニエル・ゴルスキー（Daniel Gorski）は、現代でもプレートワルツをしている数少ないジャグラーの 1 人だ。
