One of the oldest and most successful juggling dynasties ever was that of the Briatore Family of Spain. The Briatores were Alessandro (Alex) Briatore (1870-1960) and his nephew Enrico (Rico) Briatore (1881-1965). Hailing from a circus family, they presented an equestrian juggling act as the Briatores in the 1890s and later became a famous clown act known as Rico and Alex.
In 1920, Alex’s sons Alejandro and Emilie formed the D’Angolys, a juggling troupe that featured club passing and large ring work. When Alex retired from performing in 1949, Rico and Rico’s daughter Micaela joined the D’Angloys. The D’Angolys varied from two to five members over their existence.

In 1958, the D’Angolys splintered into other acts. In 1959, D’Angolys member Clothilde Briatore’s son Josef-Pepe Ott started performing as D’Angolys Junior.

Meanwhile, Alejandro, Emilie, and Alejandro’s son Sandro formed the Alegria Brothers. You can see their wonderful act in the following video.

In 1969, Emilie and Alejandro parted ways and formed new acts. Alejandro and his son Sandro formed the Two Sandros. This act highlighted Sandro’s amazing ball spinning skills. As Alejandro and Sandro were forming the Two Sandros, Emilie formed the Biarges, which was also sometimes spelled Biagres and Biagis, with his son Willy and daughter Esmerelda. Later, Emilie’s other son, Emilie Jr., joined the act. Eventually Emilie Sr. retired and the Biagis continued without him. I’m not aware of any of these acts still performing or any other offshoots, but it is amazing to see so many acclaimed juggling acts coming out of the Briatores act that formed in the 1890s.

これらの演技が現在も上演されているのか、他の分派があるのかどうかについて筆者は知らないのだが、1890 年代に結成されたブリアトレの演技から、これだけ多く評価の高いジャグリングが生まれたことは、とても素晴らしいことである。
