The Diaz Sisters had a great artistic career in America. They managed to perform in one of the most important circuses in Mexico and in several highly reputable circuses in the United States.

The group was made up of 5 sisters, all born in Mexico: Sara, Graciela, Marina, Yamili and Judy Diaz. They performed together and performed a wide variety of circus techniques such as juggling, unicycling, balancing, and hair-hanging among others.

The sisters worked with the Atayde Circus, one of the most important in Mexico, and with the Frank Brown Circus, with which they toured Mexico, Central America and South America.

In 1972, the Diaz Sisters, possibly without Sara Díaz in the group, arrived in the United States. They became involved with other circuses, including the Clyde Beatty Cole Bros Circus, Hoxie Bros, and Magic Time USA.

Over time, the Diaz sisters took different paths. Not much is known about the lives of Graciela, Yamili and Judy.

Sara is known to have been born in Mexico City, Mexico. As part of the Diaz Sisters, she juggled, balanced and performed aerial techniques. In the late 1960s, she created her solo act “Hair Hang,” which she combined with juggling and balancing. She worked under the stage name “Misako Sen.” Her show had an Asian theme and she dressed in Asian clothing.

Sara’s act first performed at the Atayde Circus. She then toured America with various circuses.

In 1972, Sara immigrated to the United States and performed her act in that country. In 1973, while working with the Hoxie Bros. Circus, she met sideshow director Stuart “Stu” Miller. That same year, the couple married in the center ring of the circus. After several years of working in circuses, Sara and Stu opened their own circus, Magic Time USA (later renamed The American Family Circus). The circus traveled throughout the United States and Canada.

Sara retired from performing after her husband passed away in 1998.

Marina Diaz was born in Mexico City, Mexico. In 1972, The Diaz Sisters came to the United States and Marina also created a “Hair Hang” act, which her sister Sara had first done. In 1974, while performing with the Clyde Beatty Cole Bros Circus, Marina met and married sideshow director Roger Boyd Jr.

After performing with the Clyde Beatty Cole Bros, Hoxie Bros. and Lewis Bros Circus, Marina and Roger formed the Boyd Family Circus, a small circus designed to perform at fairs, parks and events.

Marina is now retired from show business and lives with her husband in Valdosta, Georgia.

 

 

The Diaz Sisters

The Diaz Sisters tuvo una gran carrera artística en América. Lograron actuar en uno de los circos más importantes de México y en varios de gran reputación en Estados Unidos.

El grupo estaba conformado por 5 hermanas, nacidas en México: Sara, Graciela, Marina, Yamili y Judy Diaz. Actuaban juntas y realizaban una gran variedad de técnicas de circo como malabares, monociclo, equilibrios, hair-hanging, entre otras.

Las hermanas trabajaron con el Circo Atayde, uno de los más importantes de México, y con el circo Frank Brown, con los cuales, hicieron giras por México, Centroamérica y Sudamérica.

En 1972, The Diaz Sisters, posiblemente sin Sara Díaz en el grupo, llegaron a Estados Unidos. Se vincularon a otros circos, incluido el Clyde Beatty Cole Bros Circus, Hoxie Bros, y Magic Time USA.

Con el paso del tiempo las hermanas Díaz tomaron caminos diferentes. No se conoce mucho sobre la vida de Graciela, Yamili y Judy.

De Sara se sabe que nació en Cuidad de México, México. Dentro de The Diaz Sisters hacía malabares, equilibrios y técnicas aéreas. Finalizando la década de 1960, creó su acto en solitario “Hair Hang”, que combinó con malabares y equilibrios. Trabajó bajo el nombre artístico de “Misako Sen”. Su show tenía un tema asiático y vestía con ropa asiática.

El acto de Sara se presentó primero en el Circo Atayde. Luego, salió de gira por América con varios circos.

En 1972, Sara emigró a los Estados Unidos y realizó su acto en ese país. En 1973, mientras trabajaba con el circo Hoxie Bros., conoció al director de espectáculos secundarios Stuart “Stu” Miller. En ese mismo año, la pareja se casó en la pista central del circo.

Después de varios años de trabajar en circos, Sara y Stu abrieron su propio circo, “Magic Time USA” (más tarde rebautizado como “el circo de la familia americana”). El circo viajó por todo Estados Unidos y Canadá.

Sara se retiró de los escenarios luego de que su esposo falleciera en 1998.

Por su parte, Marina Diaz nació en la Ciudad de México, México. En 1972, The Diaz Sisters llegó a Estados Unidos y Marina creó también un acto de “Hair Hang”, que primero había hecho su hermana Sara. En 1974, mientras actuaba con el Clyde Beatty Cole Bros Circus, Marina conoció y se casó con el director de espectáculos secundarios Roger Boyd Jr.

Después de actuar con Clyde Beatty Cole Bros, Hoxie Bros. y Lewis Bros Circus, Marina y Roger formaron el “Boyd Family Circus “, un pequeño circo diseñado para presentarse en ferias, parques y eventos.

Marina ahora está retirada del mundo del espectáculo y vive con su esposo en Valdosta, Georgia.
