One of the strangest shows in diabolo history is the little-known “Human Diabolo.”
The show was made by Miss Renée Furie, at the beginning of the 20th century. It was similar to the human cannonball. Furie got into a giant diabolo, in which she slid down a kind of slide of more than 10 meters that threw her into a net or another smaller structure. Then, Renée emerged victorious from the diabolo greeting the spectators.
Unfortunately, there is no information about the life of Renée Furie.
The French newspaper Le Petit Parisien, in its October 26, 1912 edition, wrote about Renée Furie’s act:
“The ‘human diabolo’ at Cirque de Paris is without a doubt the most audacious exercise we have ever had the opportunity to witness, and we can understand the cheers that greet Miss Renée Furie as she presents this sensational attraction to Cirque de Paris: a true “human diabolo.” She is thrown into the void, where she describes a dizzying parabola, traversing a space of more than 10 meters to 15 meters high, before falling back into the net. It is a minute of anguish that ends in a true explosion of enthusiasm.”

Tomorrow, Friday, Renée Furie’s impressive debut, at the Human Diabolo: the body enclosed in a metallic diabolo, descending from the hanger at dizzying speed, spinning in a vacuum for 15 meters, and coming to fall heavily on the stage with a strength of 10,000 kilos, that’s five minutes of unspeakable anguish.

Renée Furie in Nouveau Cirque.
With another context, the magazine Mémorial d’Amiens et du département de la Somme published a cartoon called “Le Diabolo Humain.” There, literally, two people roll a woman as if she were a diabolo.
1. This title may make you believe that we are going to talk about a music-hall attraction. They’re not here. Just a little story lived but even more consolatory. Miss Eva Teufer-Lanler, a pretty blonde of nineteen springs, was strolling by the river the other day during the summer, her hair (Eva, not the river) wearing a little z’amour hat in the latest fashion.
2. As she passed by, two fishermen had just entangled her lines and, pulling each on her own, insulted each other with an eloquence worthy of the Palais-Bourbon. Distracted by this altercation, Eva Teufer-Lanler didn’t see a pile of cobblestones where she tripped. And she lowered her head to the ground with the very obvious intention of getting a ticket there, cheaper than in the offices.
3. During this time, our two anglers were still pulling their two lines side by side. Eva, describing a graceful parable, fell headlong on the stretched lines, so that the rope wound around her hat. However, this one had precisely the shape of a diabolo.
4. Then an idea came… devilish of course. Firing alternately and jerkily the two lines of it, they imparted to Eva Teufer-Lanler a rotary movement of 45,000 gyrometers per second, then they sent it to the blue to see if it did not come from airplanes. After 10 minutes of this exercise, Eva was in a state like Hateux (no doubt poor sick). Eva is well cured of her mania for wearing eccentric hats!

Uno de los espectáculos más extraños en la historia del diábolo es el poco conocido “Diábolo humano”.
El show fue realizado por la señorita Renée Furie, a inicios del siglo XX. Fue similar al hombre bala de cañón. Furie se metía en un diábolo gigante, en el cual, se deslizaba por una especie de tobogán de más de 10 metros que la lanzaba a una red o a otra estructura más pequeña. Luego, Renée salía victoriosa del diábolo saludando a los espectadores.
Lamentablemente, no hay información sobre la vida de Renée Furie.
El periódico francés Le Petit Parisien, en su edición del 26 de octubre de 1912, escribió sobre el acto de Renée Furie:

1. Este título quizás pueda hacerte creer que te vamos a hablar de una atracción de music-hall. No es tan. Simplemente una pequeña historia vivida pero aún más consolatoria. La señorita Eva Teufer-Lanler, una guapa rubia de diecinueve primaveras paseaba durante el verano el otro día por el río, con el pelo (Eva, no el río) ataviada con un sombrerito de z’amour a la última moda.
2. Mientras ella pasaba, dos pescadores acababan de enredar sus líneas y, tirando cada uno por su cuenta, se insultaban con una elocuencia digna del Palais-Bourbon. Distraída por este altercado, Eva Teufer-Lanler no vio un montón de adoquines donde tropezó. Y agachó la cabeza hacia el suelo con la intención muy evidente de sacar un billete allí, más barato que en las oficinas.
3. Durante este tiempo, nuestros dos pescadores seguían tirando de sus dos líneas de lado a lado. Eva, describiendo una graciosa parábola, cayó de cabeza sobre las líneas estiradas, de modo que la cuerda se enrolló alrededor de su sombrero.
