For Alexander Koblikov, the war in Ukraine could last for years. However, he proudly highlights the unity of his compatriots.
After the surprise Russian attack in Ukraine last Thursday, February 24, 2022, all circus activities were cancelled. President Volodimir Zelensky decreed martial law, so that all men, between the ages of 18 and 60, are obliged to fight alongside the Ukrainian army.
The world has strongly condemned the military actions that the Russian government carried out in Ukraine. Meanwhile Kyiv, the capital, is still in heavy fighting.
I had a conversation with two well-known Ukrainian jugglers in the juggling community: Aleksandra Sobolieva and Alexander Koblikov, who gave me their opinion about the war in Ukraine.
Aleksandra Sobolieva is considered the best hoop juggling artist in the world. She was born in Kyiv. She started juggling at the age of 12, after seeing the Irina Pitsur show on television. Aleksandra has performed in the Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Latvia, Estonia, Romania, Israel, and the Netherlands. She too, she participated in the EJC (European Juggling Convention) and IJC (Israel Juggling Convention).

Alexander Koblikov was born in Donetsk, Donbas region, the epicenter of the conflict that started in 2014. At the age of fifteen he moved to Kyiv, where he entered the circus school where he was trained by Yuriy Pozdnyakov. His act, dressed as a Russian sailor and his final trick, in which he juggles 10 multiplex balls, is a must for any juggler.

Esteban Vélez: Are you in the Ukraine right now?
A. Koblikov: I’m very lucky, because I’m living since few years in France.
A. Sobolieva: Yes. Me and my daughter are in Ukraine in Kyiv.
E.V.: Tell me about the situation in Ukraine.
A.K.: I was born in Donbass, I went to study to Kyivbefore the conflict in Donbass started, but my parents had to leave their home, because they were against the idea that Donbass become an independent republic, they also saw shooting, Russian tanks in their village… but it’s nothing comparing what’s going on now in Kyiv and everywhere in Ukraine now. It’s a real war!
A.S.: All time we are in stress, we can’t buy something to eat.
E.V.: Have your friends or relatives fought against the Russians?
A.K.: My parents are stuck in Kyivnow, for the moment it’s ok at their area, but I don’t know how long they will hold, because soon there will be a problem with the food… So, my parents already ran away once from the “Russian peace” and now they would need to run again. My brother is stuck in the west of Ukraine with his family, they left Kyiv directly after the attack of Russian army. My brother with his family is not ok, but it’s better than to be blocked in Kyiv.
A.S.: No.
E.V.: Have you felt the support of the international juggling community?
A.K.: I got a lot of support from juggling community. And I’m very happy that the rest of the world is helping Ukraine a lot.
A.S.: Yes, I have a lot of friends – jugglers. They are call me and write me.
E.V.: Have you talked to Russian jugglers? What do you think about it?
A.K.: I didn’t talk to Russian jugglers, and now I don’t want to talk to any people from Russia, even that I know that not everybody in Russi agrees with the politics of Putin. I just hope that this war will be over soon, but it looks like it could last for years… People from Ukraine are united like never before, and I’m proud of the Ukrainian army and all Ukrainians how well they are defending Ukraine. I’m proud of our president V. Zelensky!
A.S.: Yes, I spoke with Russian jugglers. They are sorry about the war.
E.V.: What do you have to tell the world, especially the presidents of Ukraine and Russia?
A.K.: What I want to say to the world? Please stop this war! And Slava Ukraini! (Glory to Ukraine).
A.S.: I just want to live in love and be safe.
Malabaristas ucranianos opinan sobre la guerra

Para Alexander Koblikov, la guerra en Ucrania puede durar años. Sin embargo, destaca orgullosamente la unión de sus compatriotas.
Tras el sorpresivo ataque ruso en Ucrania el pasado jueves 24 de febrero de 2022, todas las actividades circenses fueron canceladas. El presidente Volodimir Zelenski decretó ley marcial, por lo que todos los hombres, entre los 18 a 60 años, están obligados a luchar junto a ejercito ucraniano.
El mundo ha condenado enérgicamente las acciones militares que el gobierno ruso realizó en Ucrania. Mientras tanto Kyiv, la capital, sigue en intensos combates.
Tuve una conversación con dos malabaristas ucranianos conocidos en la comunidad de los malabaristas: Aleksandra Sobolieva y Alexander Koblikov, quienes me dieron su punto de vista acerca de la guerra en Ucrania.
Aleksandra Sobolieva es considerada la mejor artista de malabares con hula del mundo. Nació en Kyiv. Comenzó a hacer malabares a los 12 años, luego de ver el show de Irina Pitsur en la televisión. Aleksandra ha actuado en Ucrania, Rusia, Alemania, Letonia, Estonia, Rumania, Israel y Países Bajos. También, participó en la EJC (Convención Europea de Malabarismo) y IJC (Convención de Malabares en Israel).

Alexander Koblikov nació en Donetsk, región del Donbas, epicentro del conflicto que inició en 2014. Esteban Vélez: ¿Está en Ucrania en este momento?
A. Koblikov: Tengo mucha suerte, porque vivo desde hace unos años en Francia.
A. Sobolieva: Sí. Yo y mi hija estamos en Kyiv.
E.V.: Hábleme de la situación en Ucrania.
A.K.: Nací en Donbas. Fui a estudiar a Kyiv antes de que comenzara el conflicto en Donbas, pero mis padres tuvieron que abandonar su hogar porque estaban en contra de la idea de que Donbas se convirtiera en una república independiente. También vieron disparar a los tanques rusos en su pueblo… pero no es nada comparando lo que está pasando ahora en Kyiv y en todas partes en Ucrania ahora. ¡Es una verdadera guerra!
A.S.: Todo el tiempo que estamos estresados. No podemos comprar algo para comer.
E.V.: ¿Amigos o familiares suyos han luchado contra los rusos?
A.K.: Mis padres están atrapados en Kyiv ahora. Por el momento están bien en su área, pero no sé cuánto aguantarán, porque pronto habrá un problema con la comida… Así que mis padres ya se escaparon una vez de la “paz rusa” y ahora tendrían que volver a correr. Mi hermano está atrapado en el oeste de Ucrania con su familia, se fueron de Kyiv inmediatamente después del ataque del ejército ruso. Mi hermano y su familia no están bien, pero es mejor que estar bloqueado en Kyiv.
A.S.: No.
E.V.: ¿Ha sentido el apoyo de la comunidad internacional de malabaristas?
A.K.: Recibí mucho apoyo de la comunidad de malabaristas. Y estoy muy feliz de que el resto del mundo esté ayudando mucho a Ucrania.
A.S.: Sí, tengo muchos amigos malabaristas. Me llaman y me escriben.
E.V.: ¿Ha hablado con malabaristas rusos? ¿Qué piensan al respecto?
A.K.: No hablé con malabaristas rusos, y por el momento no quiero hablar con nadie de Rusia, aunque sé que no todo el mundo en Rusia está de acuerdo con la política de Putin.
Solo espero que esta guerra termine pronto, pero parece que podría durar años… La gente de Ucrania está unida como nunca, y estoy orgulloso del ejército ucraniano y de todos los ucranianos de lo bien que están defendiendo a Ucrania. ¡Estoy orgulloso de nuestro presidente Volodimir Zelenski!
A.S.: Sí, hablé con malabaristas rusos. Lamentan la guerra.
E.V.: ¿Qué tiene que decirle al mundo, especialmente a los presidentes de Ucrania y Rusia?
A.K.: ¿Qué quiero decirle al mundo? ¡Por favor, detén esta guerra! ¡Slava Ukraini! (gloria a Ucrania)
A.S.: Solo Quiero vivir en amor y estar segura.
