I have one of the largest, if not the largest, juggling video collections in the world. Therefore, I’ve decided to start to share videos that were previously not online, along with other videos of the same jugglers, in a series that I call Videos From The Vault. To start off this series, I’d like to begin with the wonderful Dieter Tasso.
To the best of my knowledge, Dieter is the oldest performing juggler in the world, celebrating his 70th year as a performer this year. He was born Dieter Krakow in 1934 in Berlin, Germany, has been performing since 1947, and is still going strong. His act includes routines featuring three balls, three cigar boxes, three top hats, and his most famous routine, kicking a series of cups and saucers onto his head! He was a star with Ringling from 1952 to 1955, even performing the cups and saucers kick up routine on a unicycle on a slack rope for a time.
The following videos help to celebrate Dieter’s 70 years as a performing juggler. The first video shows a film of Dieter from 1953 performing in the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus at Madison Square Garden. This is online for the first time.
