The Soviet circus showed us really unimaginative tricks. Jugglers, acrobats, gymnasts, balancers, etc., reached the border of the limit in each presentation they made. If you want to be amazed one day, check out the movies of the Soviet circus.
One of those who attracted the attention of the Soviet circus world was the Latvian artist Virkaus. Unfortunately, little is known about his life. His name is Alfons Andreevich Virkaus. He was born in Latvia, in 1909. He was honored by the Latvian SSR (Soviet Socialist Republic), in 1969.

About Virkaus’s act, G. Georgiev wrote a short paragraph for the Soviet Circus magazine in November 1957:
“First of all, I would like to talk about the great master Alfons Virkaus. After a series of interesting exercises with knives and balls, he balances on a multi-level glass table in front of him, on which he manages to place many cups with saucers and vases of flowers. As a result of hard training, Virkaus created the most original trick, based on the absolute precision of balance and rhythm. Crouching just barely perceptibly on his springy legs, he rapidly spins thirty large rings on a special tripod that balances on his forehead. This peculiar and beautiful dance of the rings completes the number and gives it an excellent reception”.
Likewise, in the same magazine, but in 1962, the following was written:
“(…) The original juggler, Alfons Virkaus, demonstrates two amazing tricks: on a scale standing on his forehead he places five glass trays, a large vase of flowers, and several glasses of liquid. Another record trick: the juggler spins thirty rings at the same time!”
Virkaus, el rey de los aros
El circo soviético nos mostró trucos realmente fuera de la imaginación. Malabaristas, acróbatas, gimnastas, equilibradores, etc., llegaron a la frontera del límite en cada presentación que realizaban. Si quiere asombrarse algún día, revise las películas del circo soviético.
Uno de los que atrajo las miradas mundo circense soviético fue el artista letón Virkaus. Desafortunadamente, no se conocen datos sobre su vida. Su nombre es Alfons Andreevich Virkaus. Nació en Letonia, en 1909. Fue homenajeado por la RSS (República Socialista Soviética) de Letonia, en 1969.

Sobre el acto de Virkaus, G. Georgiev escribió un breve párrafo para la revista Circo Soviético, en noviembre de 1957:
“En primer lugar, me gustaría hablar sobre el gran maestro Alfons Virkaus. Después de una serie de interesantes ejercicios con cuchillos y pelotas, se equilibra sobre su frente una mesa de vidrio de varios niveles, en la que logra colocar muchas tazas con platillos y jarrones con flores. Como resultado de un duro entrenamiento, Virkaus creó el truco más original, basado en la absoluta precisión del equilibrio y el ritmo. Agachado apenas perceptiblemente sobre sus piernas elásticas, gira rápidamente treinta anillos grandes en un trípode especial que se balancea sobre su frente. Esta peculiar y bella danza de los aros completa el número y le proporciona una excelente acogida”.
Así mismo, en la misma revista, pero en el año 1962, se escribió lo siguiente:
“(…) El malabarista original, Alfons Virkaus, demuestra dos trucos sorprendentes: en una balanza de pie sobre su frente coloca cinco bandejas de vidrio, un gran jarrón de flores, y varios vasos con líquido. Otro truco récord: ¡el malabarista gira treinta anillos al mismo tiempo!”.
